The administration of Prof. Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba is driven by a passion to grow University of Nigeria, Nsukka into a world class university capable of competing with her peers in technological innovation and development. Identifying ICT as a key driver of this passion, the Vice Chancellor in 2015, made the acquisition of laptops a condition for admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka a condition into the University. In order to ensure a reasonably low unit price for the laptops, arrangements were made for the University to buy the laptops and sell to the students who have option of paying by installment.
In further pursuance of the bigger picture of making the University of Nigeria a center of excellence, and further driving down the unit price of the laptops, the administration decided to set up a laptop assembly line at the University. Rev. Fr. Edward Anoliefo and Engr. Egoigwe Sochima Vincent were appointed the premier director and deputy director respectively that has the task of domestication the technologies involved in laptop production. Hence the birth of Lion Gadgets and Technologies.
